Sandblasting media is one part of sandblating that has most variations. You can buy basically everything from small grain to larger grains. Media is then somehow sorted in abrasive blasting media and tumbling media.

Today we will talk about abrasive blasting media. These abrasive supplies are used to strip down paint and any thing else that is on surface.

Most comonly used is aluminum oxide (also used word for it is aluminium oxide), but you can use also corn cob, crushed glass grit, stell grid and others.

You want to buy abrasive supplies in large quantites since you use equite a lot of it. You can reuse it, but you still need big ammount of it at start.

For work with sand blaster you need different types of sandblasting abrasive.

This type of abrasive can be made from a lot of things.

Most commonly used abrasive in old times was sand. Sand blaster sand was widely available therefore it’s demand and also supply were quite high. Sand could also have different size of grains, so it could be used for removing color or for polishing surface.

Eventhough sand was commonly used it had quite few issues. Thing that probably most of you know is that sand produces a lot od dust. Now since sandblasting wasn’t over in like 5 minutes there was just to much dust. This made sandlbasting hard after some time, since dust was basically everywhere and was also very hazardous for peoples health.
This was one of main reasons for invention of new aprasives, ones which were better for health and produced less dust.

Nowadays you can use aliminuiun oxides, boron and silicin carbides, coal and copper slags or even walnut shell instead of sand blaster sand. Results will be even better since you can choose abrasive which is best suited for type af sandblasting you want to do.
